Ericsson has entered into a partnership with Africa-based Tigo Rwanda to support its business support systems (BSS) ecosystem with an innovative ‘as a service’ model, leveraging Ericsson BSS portfolio, with an aim to upgrade Tigo’s IT infrastructure

As a subsidiary of Latin America and Africa based leading telecommunications and media company Millicom, Tigo Rwanda offers mobile telephony and financial services to 25mn customers in Africa.

As per the partnership programme, Ericsson will provide Tigo with solution that cover full spectrum of charging, billing, provisioning, mediation and roaming functionality.

This strategic partnership with Ericsson is expected to enable Tigo to better serve its customers with new and innovative offerings, with an aim to improve customer experience and increase operational efficiency.

In addition, Ericsson will help Tigo to cater to advance customer care services and self-care solutions for the operation and management of services.

Commenting on the partnership, Xavier Rocoplan, chief technical and IT officer at Millicom, said, “This new way of looking at BSS activities is a cornerstone in Millicom’s operational excellence program that strives at always delivering a better experience for our customers in a more efficient manner.”

“We have already begun to see improvements in the experience for our consumers and employees in Rwanda,” Rocoplan added.

Rafiah Ibrahim, SVP and head of market in Ericsson for Middle East and Africa, said, “Our partnership with Tigo Rwanda and the implementation of Ericsson’s innovative BSS ‘as a Service’ model signifies an important first step towards future collaboration across the Millicom group.”

Tigo further hoped that this partnership will enable to meet the company’s strategic needs and provide foundation for the future development in Africa.
