TURKSAT-4A is a Turkish communications satellite that was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on February 2014.

After the launch, Mitsubishi Electric confirmed its performance in a series of in-orbit tests while the satellite maintained a pre-defined geostationary orbit about 36,000km above the equator.

Upon successful completion of the tests, the satellite was handed over to Turksat A.S. to provide communication and broadband services over a wide geographic region west of China and east of the UK, including Turkey, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

TURKSAT-4A weighs approximately 4.8 tonnes, has an orbital life span of 30 years and has Ku-band and Ka-band transponders.

The satellite is reportedly the seventh one to incorporate Mitsubishi Electric’s original DS2000 satellite platform, and all satellites launched on this platform have operated without any problems, according to the company.

Mitsubishi Electric added that it is preparing to launch TURKSAT-4B in 2015.
