Zhone Technologies has announced it will provide Telecom Namibia with fiber and copper-based access solutions to 150,000 lines over the next three years

State-owned Telecom Namibia (TN) will roll out Zhone’s MXK and other additional Zhone services to provide Namibian customers with voice and broadband services.

TN will use Zhone’s MXK solution to install active fiber and copper access solutions to upgrade its telecommunications infrastructure.

TN has launched a project to roll out fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-building/basement technologies aiming to offer cost effective broadband services to its customers in Namibia, it said.

"Zhone's solutions will allow Telecom Namibia to provide its customers with state-of-the-art broadband connection, at a cost-effective price," said Frans Ndoroma, managing director of Telecom Namibia.

Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer at Zhone Technologies, said in a statement, "Because Telecom Namibia, the biggest operator in Namibia, is a customer-driven company, it is important to provide bandwidth and multi-service solutions that meet customer demands."

TN, headquartered in Windhoek, currently serves more than 145,000 customers in the country.
